WHAT IS FIELDTURF?

When FieldTurf was first installed in a little goal mouth more than a decade ago, no one could have predicted FieldTurf’s artificial surface would have grown into the phenomenon that it is today. In an ideal world, grass thrives, the sun shines and everyone has room to play, every team in every sport gets all the playing time it needs and the weather is never a factor.

AN IDEA THAT CHANGED AN ENTIRE INDUSTRY

But of course it is not an ideal world, and FieldTurf did the impossible and copied grass. And this little FieldTurf innovation is now the choice artificial surface in the NFL, NCAA, the CFL, CIS, and MLB teams such as the Toronto Blue Jays, Minesota Twins & Tampa Bay Devil Rays. FieldTurf is also popular with small colleges, high schools, soccer clubs, soccer complexes and municipalities.

The FieldTurf concept is simple. Synthetic turf should be like grass, not carpet. And the inventors, who were sportsmen, wanted to develop a synthetic system that offered the beneficial biomechanical properties of natural grass, combined with the best attributes of a durable synthetic system: all-weather playability, low maintenance, and unlimited playing time.

The idea was simple. Looks Like Grass… Feels Like Grass…Plays Like Grass. But the technology to make it happen was not simple at all. After several years of hard work, after trials, tests, consultations with players, coaches, trainers and doctors, sample plots, equipment modifications, and countless formulations, FieldTurf was born. Initially introduced for tennis and golf, then modified for soccer, and finally perfected even for football and baseball, FieldTurf revolutionized the turf industry, and in many ways, the entire world of sport.

FieldTurf Tarkett continues today in their efforts in research and development that provides the sporting community with the superior performance - the benefits of improved safety, playability and reliability.

At Turf Masters, we have successfully installed 17 world class FieldTurf fields in Atlantic Canada, with new projects scheduled / on-going in 2009. To date we have installed over 70 percent of all artificial turf installations in Atlantic Canada.
