RTF® Sod Self-Repairing, Deep Rooting -- RTF, new premium sod exclusive in New Brunswick at NBQT New Brunswick Quality Turf (NBQT) is the licensed RTF® Sod producer in New Brunswick.* We are proud to introduce RTF® Sod in addition to our Elite Kentucky Bluegrass Sod -- NBQT Kentucky Blue. RTF® Sod is a new type of Tall Fescue, which produces rhizomes and behaves like bluegrass. Unlike other Tall Fescues, RTF® has the ability to repair itself and fill in bare spots knitting the lawn together with rhizomes.
About RTF® Sod: RTF® is a registered trademark of Barenburg, one of the world's leading grass seed production companies. The development of the RTF® turf variety was largely in response to market demand. Sod is grown under expert supervision and started from a top quality seed blend. Consumers desire a sod that brings a landscape to be attractive, convenient and efficient. With today’s ecological concerns on the rise, and the environmental benefits of sod so attractive, there has been a desire for a sod that requires less watering, and less nutrient and chemical inputs to maintain a cosmetic / ornamental lawn – enter the evolution of RTF®.
Putting in your lawn with RTF® Sod has benefits: Due to the rhizome development of RTF®
(A rhizome is a creeping stem or runner that extends outward from the main plant underground), the sod will “anchor” faster than regular tall fescue sod. This means that the sod will attach itself faster to the ground. The result is that your lawn is established faster and is faster growing on its own root system. Advantage: you can use your lawn more quickly and can back off on watering earlier. So, in addition to excellent heat, drought and shade tolerance, RTF® develops a deep, strong root system resulting in 25% less irrigation. And the RTF labyrinth™ mesh root system in conjunction with its endophytes provides RTF® with excellent protection against insects (i.e. Chinch bug) and disease. Now you can have a lawn with the best traits of a rhizomatous root system similar to Bluegrass with the ability to survive in transition zones, sun & shade like fescue, all in one grass.
RTF® is a more self supporting turfgrass in our New Brunswick environment - more resistant to pest and drought; reduced annual fertilizing and watering requirements to retain it's healthy green appearance. Forget about the pesticides.
